Dr. Bonnie Virag is currently a dual credentialed Doctor of Physical Therapy and Certified Athletic Trainer, practicing full time in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has her own history as a competitive swimmer and is on a mission to give back to the sport which had such a positive influence in her own life. She is the owner and creator of Streamline Health, a comprehensive injury prevention program which she personally administers onsite for swim teams and coaches in the Pittsburgh area.
She has worked and trained extensively at the Division I collegiate level with the University of North Carolina Tar Heel Swimming and Diving teams and had experience working with the UNC junior varsity and varsity Basketball teams. Bonnie has also had the opportunity to experience sports medicine at the professional level as a seasonal Athletic Training intern in the National Football League with the six-time Superbowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers. She has also enjoyed time working with elite level dancers through Pittsburgh’s professional ballet company, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Her sports medicine experience extends into the high school arena with many local athletes and she really enjoys working with a younger population of patients in youth athletics.
She is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh where she earned her degree as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. She received her Master’s Degree in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina and she completed her undergraduate studies in Athletic Training at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Bonnie led research that was published in the peer-reviewed research journal Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach in which she studied the prevalence of biomechanical freestyle swimming errors and shoulder pain in elite competitive swimmers. This research, Bonnie's experience working closely with successful elite athletes and her longtime love of swimming has served as the catalyst for Streamline Health and her vested interest in the long term health of swimmers.
